The Learning Library
Exploring the Equine Mind Through Herd Dynamics & Sensory Soundness™

The Learning Library is a living body of work dedicated to understanding how horses experience the world; emotionally, sensorially, and within the structure of the herd. It exists for those who are curious not just about what horses do, but about why they do it, and how our decisions, environments, and expectations are experienced from the horse’s perspective.
This is not a traditional training library. It is a place of inquiry, reflection, and applied understanding designed to support horse owners, professionals, educators, and students who wish to work more thoughtfully, responsibly, and compassionately with horses.
Why the Learning Library Exists
Much of modern horsemanship focuses on outcomes: performance, compliance, and visible behavior. The Learning Library was created to explore what happens before those outcomes; how horses process pressure, manage stress, interpret their surroundings, and navigate both natural and domesticated herd environments.
At its core, this work is grounded in equine welfare. It asks us to slow down, to listen more carefully, and to recognize that behavior is not something to be corrected in isolation but understood as an expression of internal experience. Education, when approached thoughtfully, becomes a form of stewardship.
How to Use This Space
There is no required order here, and no expectation that learning happens in a straight line.
Some visitors begin with definitions and language, others with lectures or case-based lessons. You are encouraged to explore at your own pace, revisit concepts over time, and allow understanding to deepen rather than rush toward conclusions.

This Library is designed to grow with you and with the work itself.
About the Work Behind the Library
The Learning Library reflects the life’s work of Kerry M. Thomas, an international educator and equine behavior specialist whose research and teaching focus on Herd Dynamics and Sensory Soundness™. His work bridges decades of field research, including the study of wild horses and natural ecosystems, with applied education across equine and human-centered disciplines.

Rather than offering fixed methods or prescriptive answers, this body of work emphasizes observation, interpretation, and responsibility. It is built for those who value depth over shortcuts and understanding over compulsion.
What You’ll Find Inside
An Invitation
The Learning Library is not about mastery; it is about relationship.
It invites you to listen more carefully, question more thoughtfully, and approach the horse with humility and curiosity. This body of work will continue to evolve, and you are invited to walk the trail of discovery alongside it as new insights become new lessons.

If you are here to learn how to see differently, you are in the right place.
